22 Inca Facts

My family is going to Cusco, including me and we are going to Machu Picchu which was sacred to the Incas so we have learned all we could about the Incas.  Here are 22 inca facts.

Inca facts

  1. Incas lived in small houses with small windows and small doors because it was so cold.
  2. They believed that their king, the Sapa Inca was descended from their sun God, Inti.
  3. The didn’t know how to read and write so we have no written records of their history from them.
  4. Machu Picchu is the sacred town of the Incas.  They chose its location because mountains were sacred to them and Machu Picchu is on a mountain.  There is a also a river running around three sides of the mountain.  Rivers were considered sacred too.

  5. Cusco was their capital city.   Today you can see the Sun Temple there.
  6. There were a lot of farmers.  They grew corn and they made chicha beer from it.
  7. The Incan Empire was called by them Tawantinsuyo, which meant Land of the Four Quarters. It stretched for over 2500 miles, along the west coast of South America, which is almost as wide than the width of the United States.
  8. The Inca Rulers had their ear lobes stretched out with earrings to make huge holes to wear the earrings in.
  9. Huayna Capac, son of Manco Capac, son of Inti, divided his empire between his two sons who were called Atahualpa and Huascar.  They fought with each other and so the empire grew weaker.  So they couldn’t defend themselves against the Spanish and so the Spanish took over.
  10. Most of the Incas were killed by diseases brought by the Europeans.  Probably nearly two thirds were killed by smallpox and other infectious diseases.
  11. Machu Picchu was used for only a century.  It was no longer in use when the Spanish came along so it was never discovered and was taken over by the jungle.
  12. Machu Picchu was discovered in 1911 by Hiram Bingham.  There was no gold or precious materials found there, only pots and lots of mummified people, often children.
  13. Some children were sacrificed to the gods.  They got taken up into the mountains, given a drug to make them sleep and then they got left to freeze to death.
  14. They were polytheists which means they worshipped many gods, including Inti the Sun god, Pachamama, Inti’s wife, Mother Earth.
  15. According to the Inca, Viracocha was the creator of all the other gods and the original all-powerful God.
  16. Pachacamac was the god of the creation of earth and the fire god.
  17. Manco Capac was the son of Inti and considered to be the first Sapa Inca and the first created man.
  18. Mama Coca was the goddess of health and joy
  19. Mama Ocllo, Manco Capac’s sister, was the daughter of Inti and considered to be the goddess of fertility.
  20. Mama Quilla was the goddess of the moon.
  21. They never invented the wheel.
22. They drunk chicha morada made from purple corn.

The new kitchen

The new kitchen is going to be a big success. Even though we haven't finished yet, I love it already. There is a list of reasons we have rebuilt the kitchen. Here's the list: There were bugs between the tiles; the oven wasn't working; the cupboards were all mouldy and it was always dirty.

I still liked it back then, but if we have had to rebuild it, we have had to rebuild it. There is going to be some new things in the new kitchen too, for example, curtains on the windows; an island and a table in a corner.
I am so excited about the new kitchen.

Peru

I live in Peru. Peru is in South America.  The city of Peru that I live in is Lima.  I live by the beach and it is quiet where I live but it is the city.  I think it is quiet because of the beach.  The beach is covered in rubbish and there is a flag that says "No saludable" which means "Not healthy" in English.

They speak Spanish in Peru.  In the jungle, some people speak Shipibo, a jungle language.  I can speak Spanish and English.  I also speak a little bit of Shipibo because we have some Shipibo guys in our community who taught me some Shipibo.

My favourite food is Aji de Gallina which means Chicken Chili.

My favorite drink is chicha morada, which is made from pineapple skins, purple corn, cinnamon and cloves boiled together in water.

I like living in Peru because there are lots of things to do.  For example, in the summer you can go out for a swim.

In January and February last year I went to the Club Cultural, where I did Karate, Fencing, Football and Swimming.  Everybody has to do swimming, but it got boring after a while.  My most favourite was Karate.  It has been a while, but I still remember the moves. There was something I didn't like about Karate though - there was hundreds of ants on the floor and they kept climbing on my leg and I had to keep killing them and picking them up.

I love Peru.

Daddy

I love Daddy, especially when he lets me watch Clash of Clans. I call it C.O.C. He also plays Candy Crush Saga. I call it C.C. As far as I know, he is on level 100. He has got new games called Farm Heroes Saga and another game called Pet Rescue Saga.

I love to give him lots of cuddles and kisses. But I don’t like it when we have to go and pay bills together, because it takes too long.

Every two Friday nights we have a Daddy date.  One Daddy date we go out, and the other Daddy date we stay in my house and play Risk.

I really do love Daddy.

Kaleb

Kaleb is my youngest brother.  He is very silly because he says funny sentences, e.g. "I'm not a fast wunner! (runner)" or "You climbing up the twee! (tree)" or "Doely (Joely) is making a catapult!" "I want ta (a) Daddy date toooo!"

He loves doing creative time, especially painting.

He loves copying Judah (Amanda and Shaun's son). When Judah crawls around, Kaleb copies him.

Kaleb is also very silly - he screams when it is not necessary, he says '-ockroach!" when sometimes there isn't a cockroach just to tease us.

Kaleb loves to copy everything I say and do.  If I say, "Yuck, this is disgusting!" He laughs and says the same.  If I take off my T-shirt, he takes off his t-shirt.  If I say "I'm a copycat!" he says "Daniel's a copycat!"

When we're walking, he only wants to hold my hand.  I more or less like holding his hand, because sometimes I want to walk quicker, but sometimes because I love him I do it.

Kaleb is so silly. I love him.

Rio 2

Yesterday I went to the cinema and guess what, I went to watch Rio 2! It was the first time I went to a cinema!

Rio 2 was so exciting. I especially liked when the birds fought the loggers. We bought a huge thing of popcorn there. I loved Rio 2.

Creative time

We do creative time once a day Monday to Friday as part of homeschool.  You can paint stuff, and basically create anything you want to create.  I love painting with our paint pens, with paint brushes and Joel loves to do woodwork.  One day I made doodle dots because I was experimenting with paint.

One day I made cross-hearts just for fun.
One day I made a dotty flower and I was also experimenting too using salt and glue.
The following pictures are of the Burgess family.  To make the skin colour I used pink and yellow paints.

This is Jonathan the robot.  Joel gave me the idea.
And here are my turbo-fire race cars. I put fire on the back for turbo-boosters.  That is why it is called turbo-fire.

 Creative time is fun.
